Why did we become emigrants .....

More than 13 years ago, we decided to leave our country of birth for a new life in Australia. For our safety, but most importantly we wanted a better life for our 2 boys.

I haven't blogged for years, but I've decided to write again. Life as we know it has changed forever .... C0VID-19 happened. Who knew that the world will ever stand still, empty streets, planes parked in the outback, and no overseas travel.  Wearing masks when shopping for essentials. How on earth did this happen? But it's not about C0VID today. Today I'm writing about everything I'm grateful for.

We are sitting at home, having to start wearing masks again for the next 2 weeks, starting at 1am tomorrow morning. Just when we thought life was back to the new "normal", C0VID throws a spanner in the wheels again.

Today I only want to write about good things. The most important people in our lives are our 2 boys. We wanted them to live in safety, and have the careers they want, to be able to get a job and not be judged because they are the wrong colour. So how did our 2 boys do?

Our oldest was 13 when we arrived in Australia. He met the love of his life in year 8, when he was just 14 years old. She was only 12. (Kids in Ozzie go to school when they are 5, where we come from kids went to school at 7, so that's why there's such an age difference in the same grade). 2 years ago the 2 lovebirds got engaged, moved into a rental, and started a life together as partners. 4 days ago they received the keys to their first house. So much excitement. The wedding date is a year from now and they are blissfully happy. Both have finished their uni degrees and our son completed his Masters. They both have permanent jobs and earn a good salary. They will have a bright future. Mission completed for our oldest.

Our youngest was 10 when we arrived in Australia. He finished his degree last year and has a full-time graduate position until October. It will likely be extended and become full-time. The company is very happy with his progress and they've started giving him more responsibilities.  He's met an Ozzie girl at uni and they've been together for 4 years.  He is still living at home and doesn't have plans to move out soon.

So yes, this is what we wanted for our boys ..... mission accomplished.

In inbetween we've lived a busy life. Life happened. Not always the way we thought it would be.

I survived cancer ..... which's a whole new story

I have lost 4 cousins in the last 2 years, recently my Uncle Giddy who had C0VID.

Hubby had bell's palsy and recovered

Both MIL and FIL are ill and are on oxygen 24/7

Hubby just had knee surgery

Our soon to be daughter-in-law's dad passed away last year, such a sad time for everyone. Doctors gave him 4 months, he only had 2 weeks to say goodbye to his family.

We've travelled to New Zealand and learned to ski - twice

Hubby reached his goal in his career and are happily living his dream

I am a special needs teachers and love working with my students

We've recently updated our Wills and realised we have to work for many more years to be able to retire comfortably. Starting over at 40 doesn't leave much $ in our Super accounts, the biggest drawback of waiting too long before emigrating.

We are about to leave on a 3-week trip (long service leave) to explore a bit more of Australia. This has always been a dream of ours. We decided we can't wait till "one day", as you never know if there will be another day. Cancer was a "look at life differently" experience, never leave things for when you retire, because you never know what the future will hold.

We hope that we will avoid another lockdown so that we can go on our long-planned trip and get away from the busyness of everyday life.

Now ... let's keep an eye on the news .... what's C0VID up to now.
